| The
Purchase Premedical Club is a student organization that meets about once every
two weeks throughout the semester. For Fall of 2002, the club
will meet every other Monday at noon in Room 1002. The first
meeting was September 9, to introduce the club's activities and
members. The second meeting was September 23, and
included an explanation of the "file" each person needs to
start with Career Development Office, in preparation for applying to
medical or other professional schools. On Monday, September
30th, the group toured the New York Medical College facilities (photos of this
trip). The next meeting took place on
Monday, October 21st, and included suggestions for internships and
volunteer experiences that students might include in their
preparations for professional schools. The next meeting will
take place on November 4th at noon in Room 1002.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME! A light lunch is usually provided for
noon meetings.
Another
new and exciting activity the club has begun this year is a drop-in
tutorial session for students taking the introductory premed
classes, and associated entry-level courses in the sciences,
including General Biology, General Chemistry, Introductory Physics,
Organic Chemistry, and Intro: Psychology. For this semester,
members of the Premed Club will be available on Thursday afternoons
to assist students in any of these courses. Look for signs in
the building describing the program's time and room.
For Spring,
2002, the group's officers included (below, from left to right) Erica
Roper, Treasurer; Kevin Neill, President; and Josie Cain,
Vice-President. Not available for the photo was Xaviera Ortiz,
Secretary. In Fall, 2002, the officers include Kevin Neill,
President; Josie Cain, Vice-President; Kamilah Crooks, Secretary;
and Stuart James, Publicity and Tutoring.
