Showcasing the Sciences at Purchase College:
Begun in 1981, the Symposium provides an opportunity
for seniors to present their Senior Project research to a large
audience of peers, alumni, family, faculty, and members of the community.
Concurrent sessions in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science,
Mathematics/Computer Science, and Psychology take place throughout
the morning. The presentations are followed by an Awards Ceremony
in which Natural Sciences students receive awards for academic excellence,
outstanding research, and service to the Division of Natural Sciences.
Seniors who participate in the symposium consider it a highlight
of their senior year.
Information
for guests: At
each Symposium, a light
breakfast and lunch is provided. If you have not been to
Purchase before, go to this map
of the campus and click to get the full map. The Natural
Sciences Building is building 20 on the map, and you can park near
the Performing Arts Center (building 13). Click here for directions
to the campus.
Here's
what one past participant said about her experience:
"I highly recommend anyone who gets offered to be a presenter
at the Natural Sciences Student Symposium to go for it. I wasn't
sure if I should at first, but it was another great experience and
it taught me a lot about public presentations, which are very important,
especially in the research sciences." -Anne Houser
