research:
hands-on
Science
The Biology program is built on a foundation
of hands-on student involvement, and opportunities for
independent laboratory and field studies abound. One of the
hallmarks of a Purchase College education is the Senior Project.
Biology students carry out original research under the direction of
a faculty member. Results from many Senior Projects have been
published in scientific journals and our seniors present the results
of their research at our annual Student Science Symposium in April.
In February 2000, the Division of Natural Sciences was awarded a three-year (renewable) research grant
from the Merck Foundation for the purpose of supporting undergraduate research
between biology and chemistry.
